SUE MCLEOD - PAINTER
Twenty odd years ago painter Sue McLeod left her inner Melbourne life seeking a classic Australian adventure. She envisaged an old ute with a cattle dog in the back, but instead ended up with a camel-drawn wagon, a man and two kids. This unfolding journey led her along the old ghan line and into the remote magical lands of the Pitjantjatjara people where she and family worked for five years, and then onward to Alice Springs where they lived for 12 years.
This life afforded Sue a privileged and unique way of distilling the experience of being in the land through her paintings. Now based in the raw foothills of Mt Tarrengower, Victoria, this life in the land was, and is the wellspring of Sue McLeod’s gestural, wet-on-wet approach to painting. |
